Light Curtains
Light curtains protect personnel from entering hazardous areas of a machine. We typically use them at entry points that operators access frequently. Where frequent access isn’t needed, we use fixed physical guarding to close off hazardous zones.
Beam Spacing
Beam spacing is matched to the smallest object the system needs to detect. Wider spacing works well for walk-through areas, where the goal is detecting when an operator enters or leaves a cell. Tighter spacing is used in higher-risk areas where a finger or hand could reach into a hazardous zone.
How It Works
A light curtain consists of a transmitter and a receiver mounted on opposite sides of an opening. The transmitter projects a series of infrared beams across the opening to the receiver. When an object breaks one or more beams, the system signals the machine to stop. Units are available in a range of beam spacings to suit the application.
